Zip Tunes Wins the Startup 48 Prize Package!

ZipTunes is a localized social platform where students can showcase their musical talents and even compete with other schools!

The 2016 winning team of Eau Claire Startup 48 is ZipTunes: Matthew Seargent, Sean OBrian, and Justin Vajko (shown above, listed from left to right)! ZipTunes was awarded the Prize Package – valued over $15,000 – consisting of:

  • Office Space at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

  • Parallax Website with 12 months of hosting by JB Systems

  • 10 hours of wireframing services/conceptualization by JB Systems

  • 1 hour brand and identity consulting by Satellite Six

  • Logo design by Satellite Six

  • Business Card Design by Applied Data Consultants

  • 2 hours of Advertising and Social Media Consultation by Applied Data Consultants

  • Team Building Package by Escape EC

Eau Claire Startup 48 was held October 14th – 16th at JAMF Software in downtown Eau Claire. Out of the 12 participants – 8 individuals pitched their ideas. These pitches ranged from a snowboarding app to a loan service. Event participants then voted for their favorite pitches, and teams formed around the three favorite ideas:

  • Bowlistic – a convenient and healthy breakfast choice that offers more complete nutrition information to the consumer

  • Cemrec – a mobile and web app that utilizes user preferences to help answer the question “What’s for dinner?” once and for all

  • ZipTunes – a localized social platform where students can showcase their musical talents and even compete with other schools!

Teams worked Friday night through Sunday on their ideas culminating into presentations of their ideas in completed form to a team of judges. After teams demonstrated their prototypes and received valuable feedback from the judges, ZipTunes was announced as the grand prize winner.Startup 48 is a 48-hour event where developers, designers, marketers, product managers and startup enthusiasts come together to share ideas, form teams, build products, and launch startups!


Beginning with open mic pitches on Friday evening, attendees bring their best ideas and inspire others to join their team. Over Saturday and Sunday, teams focus on customer development, validate their ideas, practice LEAN Startup Methodologies, and build a minimal viable product.
